TOKYO, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks dropped Wednesday as caution prevailed on concerns over possible instability following the launch of a formal impeachment inquiry into U.S. President Donald Trump.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 78.69 points, or 0.36 percent, from Tuesday at 22,020.15.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, finished 2.86 points, or 0.18 percent, lower at 1,620.08.

Machinery, securities house, and oil and coal product issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
