TOKYO, March 10 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks were essentially flat Wednesday morning as investors both bought following U.S. tech issues advancing overnight and sold due to the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 12.88 points, or 0.04 percent, from Tuesday to 29,040.82.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 1.57 points, or 0.08 percent, at 1,919.25.

Pharmaceutical and electric appliance issues led notable advancers, while mining, and iron and steel issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
