The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 3.52 points, or 0.02 percent, from Thursday to 22,747.08.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 0.49 points, or 0.03 percent, at 1,644.23.

Securities, and information and communication issues led notable decliners, while chip, pharmaceutical and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
