Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning as firm yen weighs

TOKYO, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning as investor sentiment was dented by a firm yen, despite a positive lead from Wall Street overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 167.75 points, or 0.81 percent, from Tuesday to 20,417.56.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 7.29 points, or 0.49 percent, at 1,491.94.

Metal product, farm and fishery, and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
