Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning as yen's rise hurts exporters

TOKYO, July 3 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning despite US shares making moderate advances overnight, as the yen's rise against the US dollar dampened sentiment and weighed on exporter issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 145.54 points, or 0.67 percent, from Tuesday to 21,608.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 14.44 points, or 0.91 percent, at 1,575.40.

Oil and coal product, mining and nonferrous metal-related issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
