Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning on profit-taking

TOKYO, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning as investors opted to lock in gains following the Nikkei's 14-month closing high the previous day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 86.15 points, or 0.36 percent, from Tuesday to 23,979.97.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 5.34 points, or 0.31 percent, at 1,741.86.

Marine transportation, real estate and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
