Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning on weak GDP data

TOKYO, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Monday morning as worse-than-expected gross domestic product data showing Japan's economy shrank an annualized real 6.3 percent in the October-December quarter, the biggest contraction since 2014, dented investor sentiment.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 150.56 points, or 0.64 percent, from Friday to 23,537.03.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 14.67 points, or 0.86 percent, at 1,688.20.
Air transportation, metal product and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
