TOKYO, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were mixed Tuesday morning as buying of pharmaceutical issues linked to COVID-19 treatments was offset by selling to secure gains after the Nikkei hit a 30-year high late last week.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 47.72 points, or 0.17 percent, from Friday to 28,186.75.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 0.94 point, or 0.05 percent, at 1,854.00.

Oil and coal product and pharmaceutical issues led notable gainers, while pulp and paper and securities house issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
