TOKYO, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened essentially flat on Tuesday, as U.S. financial markets being closed overnight for a national holiday left investors here with a lack of fresh incentives.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 17.10 points, or 0.08 percent, from Monday to 20,603.09.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.31 point, or 0.02 percent, at 1,505.52.
Iron and steel, and nonferrous metal issues led notable advancers, while decliners comprised mining, textile and apparel-linked issues in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
