TOKYO, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index closing higher overnight in the United States saw related issues here gain traction.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 134.02 points, or 0.51 percent, from Tuesday to 26,570.41.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 4.57 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,765.69.

Service, precision instrument and pharmaceutical issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
