Tokyo stocks open higher on buybacks after losing streak

TOKYO, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as investors bought back issues oversold following the market's recent losing streak, with exporters advancing on a weaker yen.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 115.12 points, or 0.50 percent, from Tuesday to 23,308.92.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 7.28 points, or 0.44 percent, to 1,672.99.

Precision instrument, pharmaceutical, and warehousing and harbor transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
