TOKYO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday after inheriting a solid lead from Wall Street overnight, with investor fears eased after fears of a global recession and sentiment bolstered by stimulus measures in China and Germany.

In the opening minutes after the morning bell, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 74.38 points, or 0.36 percent, from Monday to 20,637.54.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.79 points, or 0.45 percent, at 1,501.12.

Real estate, marine transportation, and iron and steel-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in early play.
