Tokyo stocks open higher on hopes for upbeat earnings

TOKYO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday on hopes for upbeat domestic earnings reports this week, although concerns remained about a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Europe and the United States.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 53.92 points, or 0.23 percent, from Friday to 23,570.51.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.17 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,628.49.

Mining, construction and electric appliance issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
