Tokyo stocks open higher on overnight rise of US shares

TOKYO, July 24 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday, as investor sentiment was lifted by US shares advancing overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 75.65 points, or 0.35 percent, from Tuesday to 21,696.53.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 4.60 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,573.42.

Mining, marine transportation, and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
