Tokyo stocks open higher on Trump's discharge from hospital

TOKYO, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday after U.S. President Donald Trump left hospital for the White House following COVID-19 treatment.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 82.66 points, or 0.35 percent, from Monday to 23,394.80.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 4.71 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,641.96.

Iron and steel, oil and coal, and nonferrous metal issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
