Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street's solid overnight lead

TOKYO, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday following a solid lead from Wall Street overnight as concerns about an escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran continued to abate.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 73.66 points, or 0.31 percent, from Thursday to 23,813.53.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.77 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,735.82.

Machinery, pharmaceutical and securities house-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
