TOKYO, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday, following a positive lead from Wall Street late last week, as market expectations rose for another interest rate cut this month by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 73.51 points, or 0.35 percent, from Friday to 21,273.08.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 5.21 points, or 0.34 percent, at 1,542.31.

Insurance, pharmaceutical and air transportation-linked issues comprised notable gainers in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
