TOKYO, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened moderately lower on Wednesday following Wall Street closing mixed overnight in choppy trade, although solid earnings from JPMorgan and Citigroup may have a bearing on their counterparts here.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 64.18 points, or 0.27 percent, from Tuesday to 23,960.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 5.77 points, or 0.33 percent, at 1,734.76.

Securities house, nonferrous metal and machinery-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
