Tokyo stocks open lower as investors opt to take profits

TOKYO, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday as investors opted to take profits after the benchmark Nikkei stock index climbed more than 9 percent last week.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 197.07 points, or 1.01 percent, from Friday to 19,301.43.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 12.30 points, or 0.86 percent, at 1,417.74.

Marine transportation, warehousing and harbor transportation service, and securities house issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
