Tokyo stocks open lower on Wall Street's weak lead

TOKYO, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday after inheriting a weak lead from Wall Street overnight, with some investors opting to take profits following the market's recent gains.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 99.73 points, or 0.46 percent, from Thursday to 21,816.58.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 7.61 points, or 0.48 percent, at 1,569.73.

Iron and steel, mining and rubber product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
