Tokyo stocks open mixed on virus concerns, domestic travel hopes

TOKYO, June 19 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks opened mixed on Friday as concerns over a second wave of coronavirus infections in the United States prompted selling, while hopes for increasing domestic travel in Japan after restrictions were lifted helped sentiment.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 93.93 points, or 0.42 percent, from Thursday to 22,449.39.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 1.83 points, or 0.12 percent, at 1,581.26.

Air transportation and securities house issues let notable advancers, while iron and steel, and nonferrous metal issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
