TOKYO, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Tuesday, tracking overnight gains on Wall Street, with sentiment bolstered by figures showing a slowing death rate from the coronavirus in the U.S. and Europe.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 518.24 points, or 2.79 percent, from Monday to 19,094.54.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 31.89 points, or 2.32 percent, at 1,408.19.

Service, construction and bank-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
