Tokyo stocks open sharply higher following Wall Street's record highs

TOKYO, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Friday after Wall Street jumped to record highs overnight, with investors optimistic about the future course of the global economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 476.96 points, or 2.04 percent, from Thursday to 23,901.77.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 26.98 points, or 1.58 percent, to 1,739.81.

Nonferrous metal, insurance and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
