Tokyo stocks retreat in morning after Trump halts stimulus talks

TOKYO, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks retreated Wednesday morning after U.S. President Donald Trump stopped negotiations until after the presidential election for additional stimulus to underpin the virus-hit economy sparked concerns.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 38.42 points, or 0.16 percent, from Tuesday to 23,395.31.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 1.68 points, or 0.10 percent, at 1,644.07.

Pharmaceutical, farm and fishery, and land transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
