Oil prices tumbled Monday, with the main US crude contract WTI briefly shedding five percent following a slump for equities caused by the SVB bank collapse.

West Texas Intermediate slid to $72.80 per barrel and European benchmark, Brent North Sea crude, retreated 4.5 percent to $79.07.
