Washington (People’s Daily) - For the second time in 24 hours, US Senate Democrats shot down a massive coronavirus (COVID-19) stimulus bill on Monday.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer blamed Senate Majority Leader leader Mitch McConnell for holding the procedural vote arbitrarily before a compromise could be reached between Democrats and the Trump administration.

Schumer also said that once a deal with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is reached, he will speed up proceedings on the Senate floor.

Democrats disagree with the structure of the stimulus package, which they believe offers too much aid for corporations with little control and does not provide enough relief for workers.

Meanwhile, Republicans blamed the Democrats for blocking the entire package over a set of narrow issues, and at the expense of the US economy.
