US stocks open higher after US-Mexico agreement

NEW YORK, June 10 (Xinhua) - US stocks opened higher on Monday as market sentiment was lifted after President Donald Trump said his country had reached a signed agreement with Mexico on tariffs.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 161.85 points, or 0.62 percent, to 26,145.79. The S&P 500 was up 18.00 points, or 0.63 percent, to 2,891.34. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 63.17 points, or 0.82 percent, to 7,805.27.

Shares of Goldman Sachs Group and Caterpillar rose 2.6 percent and 1.45 percent in morning trading.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded higher, with both consumer discretionary and technology climbing more than 1 percent shortly after the opening.

US equities posted solid gains in the week ending June 7 amid hopes for possible interest rate cuts.
