Wall Street equity indices were mixed early Friday after government data showed the US economy gained just 266,000 jobs last month in a major disappointment.

A couple of minutes into the trading session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.2 percent at 34,488.79, pulling back from Thursday's record close.

The broad-based S&P 500 edged up 0.1 percent to 4,204.15, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 0.5 percent to 13,704.12.
