NEW YORK, April 23 (Xinhua) -- U.S. oil prices surged on Thursday.

The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for June delivery rose 2.72 U.S. dollars, or 19.7 percent, to settle at 16.5 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
