"'Democracy' is neither a shield for 'Taiwan independence' nor a talisman for Taiwan separatists," said a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson on Tuesday at a routine press briefing.

Wang Wenbin pointed out that the head of the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) went to the Taiwan region and stood up for "Taiwan independence" forces under the guise of "democracy".
"This did not succeed in the past, nor will it succeed now or in the future," Wang said.
He added that the NED had long been funded by the US Congress and the White House, serving as a tool for the US to interfere in other countries' internal affairs and one of the creators of many China-related lies and rumors.
