12 missing after fishing boat sinks off China's Pingtan Island

FUZHOU, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) - A fishing boat carrying 14 crew members sank in waters near the Pingtan Island of east China's Fujian Province early Sunday.

As of 10 a.m., 12 people remained missing, according to the provincial marine rescue center.

Two people were saved after the boat, registered in Fujian's Quanzhou city, submerged at around 4 a.m. in waters near the Pingtan Island, the center said.

Rescue work is underway and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
