Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development released a list of 2,646 villages, the fifth batch of villages, which will be included in “The List of Traditional Chinese Villages” on December 10, according to The Paper.

Selected villages need to meet one of the following conditions: traditional architecture, scenic integrity, the location and pattern of maintaining traditional characters and maintaining an active intangible cultural heritage.

By the end of 2018, 6,799 villages listed in “The List of Traditional Chinese Villages.”

Obviously, the amount of traditional villages in East China and Southwest China is well over that in other areas.

The amount of the 6,799 traditional villages seems to be a lot. However, the proportion of “traditional Chinese villages” is only 1.27 percent of the total 525,800 administrative villages. It means when we visit 100 villages, we may have a chance to experience the traditional culture from that village.
