The projects focus on a variety of factors, such as flood control, water resource allocation, water supply, ecological restoration and conservation of water environment and water conservancy information. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, the construction of major water conservancy projects plays an important part in expanding effective investment and enhancing capacity on flood control and drought relief.

Zhang Xiangwei, an official of the Ministry of Water Resources, said these 150 projects need 1.29 trillion yuan (about $188 billion) of investment.

Based on these projects, the Ministry of Water Resources plans to push more water conservancy projects in order to further the construction of national water networks and strengthen the weak links in flood control exposed this year, Zhang added.
