The Hunan Provincial Higher People's Court held a press conference on January 14 announcing that in 2018 Hunan courts at all levels enforced the payment of wages to 8,186 migrant workers. A total of 255 people were sentenced for refusing payment of labor compensation or refusing to comply with court orders to pay migrant workers’ wages.

In order to let migrant workers get their wages before the Spring festival, the Hunan Provincial Higher People's Court launched a program in mid-October to inform workers of their rights and compel the payment of back wages between November 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019.
