BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted waters off Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 7:44 p.m. Thursday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 16 km, was monitored at 24.02 degrees north latitude and 122.58 degrees east longitude, said the center.
