The 5G technology is a product of cooperation and not exclusive to some countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said during a regular press conference Thursday.

As an advanced technology, 5G matters a lot, concerns global economic development, the interests of different countries, and the progress of human civilization, Geng said in response to recent claims that the products by Chinese firms have security risks and should be excluded from 5G network construction.

The 5G technology is a product of cooperation and high-tech innovation in globalization, said Geng. "Its highly-integrated global industry chain cannot be artificially fragmented. Otherwise, it will hurt multilateral cooperation, open and inclusive markets, and fair and non-discriminatory international principles."

"China will continue upholding the principle of consultations, joint contributions and sharing, and seize the huge opportunities in the new round of the technological revolution with other parties," Geng said. "China will strengthen communication and cooperation in technology, and strive for joint development and mutual benefits, so as to contribute to the well-being of all mankind."

China hopes each country make decisions that conform to their own benefits based on their independent judgments, Geng added.
