6 arrested after forest fire in NE Beijing

Six villagers were arrested after setting weeds on fire while fixing water pipes, which ignited a forest fire in Miyun, northeastern Beijing on Saturday. 

The fire was put out Sunday morning after engulfing 259 hectares of forests.

A total of 900 firefighters and armed police have been sent to fight the fire, with two-thirds from Miyun District and the others from its neighbor in the south - Pinggu District - which was also affected by the fire from strong winds.

The national headquarters for forest and grassland fire prevention sent a warning on Friday, calling for nationwide authorities to tighten fire prevention efforts during this period.
