Wu Guanying, a professor of the Academy of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University, has created a series of drawings to show the rapid changes in transportation over the past  70 years.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the most vital transportation task of a family was to visit relatives. Traveling far from home had yet to become part of their daily life.

In the 1970s and 1980s, as an important means of transportation, bikes were widely used by Chinese people.

In the 1990s, more ways of transportation for long journeys were available to people. They could take a train, for example, to travel further. Owing to the popularity of long-distance travel, Beijing gradually became a tourist hotspot for visitors.

At the beginning of this century, more people chose to travel by private car. Taking a vacation using one’s car grew to be a fashionable way to arrive at more tourist attractions.
