8 missing in NW China mine accident

XI'AN, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Eight miners are missing after a suspected gas outburst in a coal mine in northwest China's Shaanxi Province Wednesday, local authorities said.

Forty-two miners were working underground when the accident occurred around 1 p.m. in Yintai District of Tongchuan City, according to the emergency rescue team on the site. Of the miners, 34 were lifted out of the mine safely.

Rescue work is under way.
