Death toll in a flood rose to nine with two others still missing in southern Chinese city of Shenzhen Thursday night, local authorities said Friday.

The flood was triggered by a sudden strong rainfall and flushed away a number of riverway workers in the districts of Luohu and Futian, according to the city's emergency management bureau.

Search and rescue work is underway.
