9 hurt in SW China's M5.6 quake

At least nine people were injured after a 5.6-magnitude jolted Gongxian County of Yibin City, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Thursday morning.

With depth of eight kilometers, the quake occured at 10:17 am (Beijing Time). The epicenter was monitored at 28.41 degrees north and 104.74 degrees east, according to the China earthquake network.

Two smaller aftershocks followed the quake and local authorities are still checking the quake casualties and losses, a local party chief told Xinhua News Agency.

Locals said they felt the quake strongly. Video shared on social media showed that items were shaking sharply inside the buildings in Gongxian County.

Yibin City has been hit by hundreds of aftershocks in the wake of a magnitude-6 quake on June 17.
