Wang Chunwen, a ninety-year-old from Ninghai County in Zhejiang Province, recently became internet famous due to his philanthropic ventures, while he himself lives a humble lifestyle and still uses old furniture.

For decades, Wang has been donating money and sharing his kindness to others without seeking any form of acknowledgement, according to Tencent.

Wang said his charitable motivations came from a promise, which he made when he was young and poor, that he would help the less fortunate if he ever became wealthy.

Wang was born in the late 1920s. His father passed away when he was a child, so he was raised by his mother in poor conditions.

“I was only 13 when my father passed away,” Wang said with tears in his eyes. “I worked as an apprentice in a food factory because I had to survive.”

In 1984, Wang started his own company selling plastic and steel in Ninghai and the surrounding area. Soon after her company started turning a profit, Wang started his benevolent acts.

When floods swept through Ninghai on July 30, 1988 – Wang made his first sizable donation of 300,000 yuan to help repair a destroyed bridge.

Ten years later, Wang donated another 300,000 yuan to build a dam to ease a typhoon disaster. After that, Wang donated 1.5 million yuan to help build six bridges and three roads.

According to the Charity Federation of Ninghai County, Wang’s donations have reached a combine total of 6.47 million yuan over the last 17 years.

Helping children, senior citizens, and disabled people are Wang’s main focus. His exploits include investing 2 million yuan in a semi-public welfare kindergarten, donating 40 million yuan to local nursing homes, and establishing multiple foundations to help various people.

Cao Shanjun, president of the Charity Federation of Ninghai County, said Wang will always “try his best to help those who desperately need help.”

Wang would always make his donations anonymously, shying away from the spotlight of his deeds.

“We are supposed to help others, so there is no need to remind yourself of what you should do all the time,” Wang said.

Wang’s frugal and charitable nature has even rubbed off on his children, since they all practice a modest lifestyle while also participating in community service ventures.

Wang’s next plan is to invest in the Ninghai Zhengqi Park. He said he hopes his work will inspire people to carry on his tradition of kindness in the community. Wang also said he will leave his fortune to various charities and foundations after he dies, since the money will be used to help people who need it.
