Beijing on Friday dismissed Taiwan’s accusation that the mainland reported wrong figures on the island’s coronavirus cases to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The mainland has managed to share firsthand information on epidemic control that will help Taiwan’s understanding of and response to the novel coronavirus outbreak, said Hua Chunying, spokeswoman with Chinese foreign ministry.

Data that Beijing informed the WHO was provided by Taiwan authorities and the island only has itself to blame for the alleged misinformation, said Hua.

At least 16 people on the island have been confirmed being infected with the new virus.

Hua repeated Beijing didn’t cut off Taiwan’s access to the WHO for necessary aid to contain the new coronavirus outbreak, and it should abide by the one-China principle.
