The newsroom in the 246.8-meter-tall Beijing Olympic Tower was opened this week, which will provide workspace for media during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games.

The space also will be used for other major sports competitions in Beijing Olympic Park.

Completed and opened in 2014, the Beijing Olympic Tower, which has been described as "a huge nail" because of its shape, is a place to display Olympic culture and China's traditional culture to the international society.

A compressed disk of tea leaves called "Bird's Nest Tea", produced in Tanyang village, Fu'an city in East China's Fujian province, is displayed in the tower.

A huge, 1-ton compressed disk of tea leaves called "Bird's Nest Tea", produced in Tanyang village, Fu'an city in East China's Fujian province, was transported to Beijing and put on display in the tower on the same day the newsroom opened, in the hope of demonstrating best wishes for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

The tea disk is 2.022 meters tall and weighs 925.5 kg.

Zhong Yiguo, mayor of Fu'an, said the city hopes the world will get to learn about the tea via this platform.
