Two confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Daxing District on Sunday involved the variant initially found in the UK, Beijing authorities told a press briefing on Wednesday.

The new strain most likely was imported from overseas, Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing center for disease control and prevention said.

Beijing reported seven new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, of which six were in the Ronghui residential compound in Daxing.
