The increase in imported cases of COVID-19 has become a new challenge for Beijing, an important business and transportation hub, to take on during the coronavirus outbreak, said Pang Xinghuo, spokesperson of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Among 64 imported cases, 27 are overseas students. The imported cases are mainly from Spain, Italy, the UK and the US.

Pang added that on average, between 6,000 to 8,000 people arrive at the Beijing Capital International Airport from countries and regions outside China on a daily basis.  Since February 29, 2,417 travelers’ test results have been transferred from customs to medical facilities to process.
