Beijing sees decline in permanent resident population for the second consecutive year

The permanent resident population of Beijing was 21.542 million by the end of 2018, down 0.8% from the end of 2017, data released Wednesday by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics and Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics in Beijing.

The number of permanent residents in Beijing has been negative for the second consecutive year, which is quite rare in history. It is worth noting that among the permanent residents of Beijing, residents aged 60 and over are 3.648 million, accounting for 16.9%.
