Bill Gates elected to Chinese Academy of Engineering

Beijing (People's Daily) - The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) elected Bill Gates as a foreign member, according to a release from the academy on Monday.

After several rounds of review starting in early 2017, a total of 67 local and international professionals were added to the CAE, including 18 newly elected international academicians. Until now, CAE has crowned 67 foreign academicians in total.

Among all the foreign academicians, most are working at universities and research institutes. Only Bill Gates, widely known as the founder of Microsoft, is from TerraPower, a leading nuclear innovation company that strives to improve the world through nuclear science, according to the name list posted on cae.cn.

The Chinese Academy of Engineering, the most prestigious academic institution of engineering technology in China, was founded to promote the development of the domestic engineering sci-tech industry. Academicians are elected through recognition of their contributions to engineering, a respectable personality and are expected to share their professional skills and lead innovations.
