He has planted almost 200,000 trees over the past 18 years. He started after a flood disaster, when only over 4,000 trees survived.

Jia makes small holes and plants branches with wedges and hammers. Even though he is blind, Jia is familiar with the mountain roads that he has been walking for 20 years.

In the summer of 2016, a flood occurred in Jingxing, and thousands of newly planted saplings were destroyed.

"The flood washed away the trees, but I am still determined to plant trees," Jia said after the flood and started planting more poplars on the river banks.

There are thousands of acres of barren hills near his village, and Jia hopes that someday the mountains will turn green. (Compiled by Dong Feng)
