Chengdu (People's Daily) - After three years of hard work, the main arch of the Jiming Three Provinces Bridge reached its final closure at 10:10 am on July 7, laying the foundation for the estimated opening of the bridge by the end of the year. The bridge is located at the junction of Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou.

The completion of the bridge will change the history of two state-level poor counties in Sichuan and Yunnan, which are separated from each other by the river, and therefore, completely change the traffic situation of the local people.

The bridge is 286.4 meters long, and has two-way lanes, and two-sided sidewalks. Including the entry lanes, it has a total length of 1,041.3 meters. The total investment is expected to be 59 million yuan ($8.6 million).

Jiang Zhongqiao, project manager of the construction unit, said that the location of the bridge is geologically complex. The total excavation of the Sichuan and Yunnan shores amounted to 120,000 square meters. The construction area is located in the scenic area of Jiming Three Provinces Grand Canyon, where roads are forbidden. In order to reduce vegetation damage, construction workers used construction cages on cables with pulleys.

With the removal of a traffic bottleneck, Yunnan's coal, and Sichuan's plums, tobacco and other cash crops will be transported to the outside world in a more convenient and efficient way. The bridge boosts the Tourism Industry Project of the Grand Canyon, and helps the people in the Wumeng Mountains to escape poverty.

According to the Sichuan Provincial Department of Transportation, since the 12th Five-Year Plan, the province has built a total of 487 road bridges, with 146 under construction.
